U2 - Window in the Skies

I'm no longer the U2 super-fan I used to be (in fact, I've been rather turned off by their recent albums), but I have to give props for this video.  It's great.  Apparently they got over 200 clearances for the footage used?  While that sort of thing sucks and highlights exactly what's wrong copyright today, at the same time it's good to see people looking at the creative possibilities that being one of the richest bands in the world can afford.

QotD: On Podcasts

Do you listen to podcasts?  Are there any you'd recommend?
Inspired by Alex.

For the longest time, the few I'd listen/watch with any regularity:

  • 75 Minutes - simply the best new music you're likely to hear every week
  • the show with ze frank - the only video worth watching every day
  • 43 Folders Podcast - yay Merlin!
Recently I've been adding more via iTunes (with the slick new iPod syncing, and my slick new Nano):
  • The Interface - yes, it's AOL.  and yes, it's awesome. think of it like morning becomes eclectic lite
  • Art 23: Foundations of American Cyberculture (itunes link) - Berkeley class lectures
  • USC Center of Public Diplomacy Events - Cory's speaker series
  • Craphound - Cory's stories
  • KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic Videos - I've intermittently watched these for years.  There is uncountable awesomeness in the archives
  • Ted Talks - $5,000 cheaper and probably more digestible than the real thing (go simulacra!)
  • Positive Hip-Hop Podcast - some pretty good cuts in there.

Couldn't Resist

Just ordered one of these snazzy new Bluetooth GPS devices (review).

Complete2
Complete2

This is a picture of the size taken apart.  The dimensions are 64 x 22 x 15 mm and the whole thing weighs <35g.  This should go work nicely w/ the Blackberry 8100 I've been looking at the past couple weeks.

While I was at it I picked up a Class 1 USB Bluetooth (2.0 EDR) dongle.  It was only $25, and will probably be handy slapped onto a server or my desktop workstation.  If I need more I'll probably just get some cheapies, but having a super-fast super-powerful  BT dongle to test out might useful.

I've put off buying a CF BT adapter for now, but I've found one that should be Open-Embedded Linux compatible for my iLiad if I find a compelling use for it...

QotD: In Heavy Rotation

What albums are in heavy rotation for you right now?

  • Basement Jaxx - Crazy Itch Radio - this album is, how you say, "bangin"
  • Spoon - SXSW 2006 performance - not an album per se, but soundboards from the show - acoustic "I Summon You" and "Me and the Bean"  *squee!*
  • Shout Out Louds - Combine EP - I can't stop listening to the Ratatat remix of The Comeback
  • The Hush Sound - Like Vines - cavity-inducing, mind-worming poprocks

I'm just getting around to sinking my teeth into the new Eric Bachmann (which is amazing) and the new M. Ward (also quite good).
